Terms of Service

Threadworks — Effective date: 31 July 2026

1. These terms

These terms are a contract between you and Northern Pixel covering your use of the Threadworks app and website. By installing or using Threadworks you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal data and forms part of these terms.

2. Who can use Threadworks

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you need your parent or guardian's permission.

3. Your account

Some features — publishing patterns, syncing designs between devices — require an account. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address.

Keep your email account secure: anyone who can read your email can sign in as you. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you think someone else has accessed your account.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you give us.

4. Your content

Your patterns, designs, imported photographs and stitch progress remain yours. We claim no ownership of them.

To run the service we need a limited licence to handle your content: you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, transmit and display your content solely to operate and provide Threadworks to you. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backup copies that expire on our normal cycle.

If you publish or share a pattern, you additionally grant anyone you share the link with the right to view, download and stitch that pattern. You can revoke a published pattern at any time, though copies already downloaded remain with whoever downloaded them.

You promise that you have the rights to any content you upload, and that it does not infringe anyone else's copyright, trade mark or other rights. Converting a photograph into a pattern does not create a right to publish that photograph — if you did not take it or do not have permission, do not publish it.

You must not upload or publish content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or that infringes anyone's rights. We may remove content and suspend accounts that breach this, and we will tell you why where we can.

5. Our content

The Threadworks app, its pattern library, artwork, and the Threadworks and Northern Pixel names are owned by us or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app and the patterns you have unlocked, for your own personal and craft use.

You may stitch patterns from our library and sell or give away the finished physical work. You may not redistribute, resell or republish the pattern files or pattern images themselves.

You must not copy, decompile, reverse engineer or attempt to extract the source of the app, except where the law expressly permits it.

6. Purchases, skeins and Threadworks+

Threadworks includes several kinds of purchase:

  • Skeins — the in-app currency, used to unlock individual patterns.
  • Pattern packs — bought with money.
  • Remove ads — a one-off purchase.
  • Threadworks+ — an auto-renewing subscription that includes cloud sync between devices and other member benefits.

All purchases are processed by Apple or Google, not by us. Their payment terms apply in addition to these.

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Manage or cancel in your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings — not in the app, as we cannot cancel it for you. If your subscription lapses, your cloud-synced data is kept for 30 days and then deleted; copies on your device are unaffected.

Skeins and unlocked patterns have no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money, cannot be transferred between accounts, and expire when your account is deleted. Skeins are licensed, not sold.

Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies. Contact them first. If you are a consumer in the UK or EU, your statutory rights are unaffected — including your right to cancel a digital purchase within 14 days, which you lose once download or streaming of the content begins with your consent.

We may change prices. Price changes never affect a purchase you have already made, and for subscriptions you will be notified and given the chance to cancel before a changed price takes effect.

7. Advertising

Unless you have bought Threadworks+ or the remove-ads option, the app shows advertising. Where required, we ask for your consent before showing personalised ads, and you can change that choice at any time in Settings → Privacy and Legal.

Ads come from third-party networks. We do not control their content and are not responsible for it, or for anything you buy from an advertiser.

8. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • interfere with, overload or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service or anyone else's account;
  • generate artificial ad impressions or clicks, or otherwise manipulate the advertising in the app;
  • use automated means to access the service beyond ordinary personal use;
  • circumvent purchase, entitlement or device-limit mechanisms.

9. Availability and changes

We aim to keep Threadworks available but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may add, change or remove features. If we discontinue a paid feature you have bought, or shut the service down, we will give reasonable notice and, where fair, a pro-rata refund of any unused prepaid subscription period.

10. Ending these terms

You may stop using Threadworks at any time, and delete your account in Settings → Account.

We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms. We will give notice and, where the breach can be fixed, a chance to fix it — unless the breach is serious, unlawful, or involves ad fraud, where we may act immediately. Deleting your account does not refund purchases except where the law requires it.

11. Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Threadworks is provided "as is". Subject to the paragraph above, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, or loss or corruption of data, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or £50.

Back up your work. Cloud sync is a convenience, not a backup service, and we are not liable for lost patterns or progress.

If you are a consumer, you have legal rights that these terms do not affect, and nothing here requires you to bring a claim anywhere other than where you live.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the UK or the EEA, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country and may bring proceedings there.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material we will update the effective date and tell you in the app. Continued use after the change takes effect means you accept it. If you do not accept it, stop using the app and, if you wish, delete your account.

14. General

If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours if the business is sold, without reducing your rights.
